YOUTH PROGRAMS

Throughout the organization’s history, youth programs have been one of its primary focus. Partnering with over 36 schools in the greater Bay Area with a primary focus on middle and high school students, AASC offers free student matinees and residency workshops to targeted schools in the Bay Area. Our focus is underserved schools with diverse student body population, and a proclivity for schools that have a high African-American student body. School partnerships includes attending live performance events at our venue with no cost to the schools. A supplemental workshop or residency is also offered to our partner schools that provides 4 hours for 6 weeks of a resident program that is customized with the educator and teaching artists.

SUMMER AND SPRING CAMPS
With the organization’s newly acquired creative space, we are able to branch out to offer Summer and Spring workshop camps targeting elementary and middle school students. This camp was created during COVID with an outstanding 68 students attending full-time for one week this past Summer. We intended to offer similar opportunities for Spring Break and Summer of 2022. The camps will be created based on themes identified by the community interest of potential participants.
ONLINE YOUTH PROGRAM
Online Programs for Youth Because of COVID, our teaching artists provide live online learning content, and developed recorded content for online. As African-American Shakespeare Company continues to strengthen their Arts Education Department, we foresee continuing to offer free online programming for both youths and adults. These programs will be either 5-7 minutes in length for quick short content; or a series that scaffolds to create a bigger project for home viewers to follow along.
